The EMI Music Group celebrated Grammy night at the Sunset Landmark with a 2,000-guest party that sprawled alluringly over 10 rooms decorated in such themes as Moroccan, underwater, deck of the Titanic and nautical.
The former athletic club's empty, Olympic size pool was painted blue for the evening, then furnished with couches that offered orange life jackets as pillow cushions.
"Esther Williams meets Captain Nemo in Morocco," was the way party coordinator Phillip Weingarten described the decor.
Nancy Berry, the vice-chairman ("I say 'man.' I like to be on a level playing field with men.") of Virgin Music Worldwide, said she wanted the event "not to have a corporate feel, but be more like the best party you ever threw in your own home."
Among those who took a dry dip in EMI's pool were label execs Eric Nicoli, Ken Berry, Ray Cooper, Ashley Newton and Roy Loft; plus guests including Grammy winner Lenny Kravitz, Fatboy Slim, Sheryl Crow, Courtney Love, Val Kilmer, Gina Gershon, Jeffrey Godsick, Perry Farrell, Dr. Dre, Howard Stern, Robbie Robertson and Lisa Marie Presley. - Bill Higgins.
